Running Accomplishments:

A marathon runner just trying to enjoy good health and running long. 22 years between marathon 6 & 7, raising kids. 48 marathons and counting. Average finishing time ~  3:25. Want to keep this average above 3:30 as I continue to age deepin into my 50's.   Looking for a 3:12 in SLC 2012

Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep my SL Marathon time in "teens". Possibly break the teens (3:12 - 3:00).  Two screws in right knee gives me a reality check on my ambitions. I don't want to sacrafice my joint for too crazy of a goal. Good health is my real goal.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running strong into my 60's, and add to my marathon count.  In 1982 I finished St. George at 2:57, 1 second behind a 60 year old. I've always  wondered if I could break 3 hours when I'm in my 60's. I'd like to find out.

Personal:

Married 26 years. Rosalie and I have 4 children. Love running hills, especially up Millcreek Canyon. I live 3/4 mile from its base.

Redrock Marathon 2011: 3:33 - major accomplish. 3,300' elevation gain.

SLC Marathon 2009, 2010 & 2011 : 3:15

Ogden Marathon 2010: 3:22

Teton Dam Marathon 2010 3:18

Deseret News 2010 3:47 (broke arm 30 hours before run - arm in cast)

Park City Marathon 2010 3:45 (arm in cast)

Pocatello Marathon 2010: 3:12

St. George Maratho 3:10 (2009 & 2010) 3:08:50 (2011)

Tenderizing my feet in the Lunaracers, going 2.7 round trip up to the fee station. Just working to keep my cardio alive this last week before PC marathon. I'm thinking about not taking a watch, and just going on instinct.

Round trip to the fee station and back, brisk. I'm not using my watch, and may not take it on the PC marathon this Saturday.

Up Millcreek to the first bridge and back. Toes rub in these Lunaracers. Not sure what to wear Saturday.

Didn't really know what to expect with my broken arm and not feeling that well. I believed I could run 3:30 if I felt well, but realized 3:45 was more likely considering my last month. I had the arm re-broken and a plate with 9 screws surgically installed just 2 weeks and 2 days earlier. I didn't even take a watch. I just wanted to run by how I felt, not by the clock. Though not certain, I think I hit the 13 mile point sometime around 1:40, suggesting that the last half really wore me down. I ran steadily to mile 17, then at the aid station, I had to stop and the volunteer suggested I sit down. I ran to the top of 8th, then walked, ran and walked. It got warm, and the head 10 mph wind up the rail trail from mile 7 to about 13 was taxing, but it helped me cool. I think I've had a feaver for the last week, maybe a mild infection. The head wind helped keep me dry.  Running down through PC my tank top was soaking wet. I took it off and got showered by every aid station that had a water sprayer.  Ahhh - relief.

As slow as I was running down the foot path and to the barn, I'm surprised not so many people passed me. And I knew I'd slowed down a lot. But once I hit the meadow lands, I felt better. This was much cooler, in the shade and by a stream, with lush wetland vegetation, and also knowing the end was only 4 miles.  I ran well, stopping only once to get sprayed again, and looking back at who was behind me. Not that I cared, I just wanted to see if anyone looked familiar.  Ok, so I weighed 171.0 on Friday night before bed.  After 3 bottles of chocolate milk on the way home, I weighed 164.0.  And I drank a lot, never ever passing up water on this run, and twice filling up at least twice. Temperature was 55 at the start, 76 at the end.
