Marathon Finish

Running Accomplishments:

A marathon runner just trying to enjoy good health and running long. 22 years between marathon 6 & 7, raising kids. 48 marathons and counting. Average finishing time ~  3:25. Want to keep this average above 3:30 as I continue to age deepin into my 50's.   Looking for a 3:12 in SLC 2012

Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep my SL Marathon time in "teens". Possibly break the teens (3:12 - 3:00).  Two screws in right knee gives me a reality check on my ambitions. I don't want to sacrafice my joint for too crazy of a goal. Good health is my real goal.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running strong into my 60's, and add to my marathon count.  In 1982 I finished St. George at 2:57, 1 second behind a 60 year old. I've always  wondered if I could break 3 hours when I'm in my 60's. I'd like to find out.

Personal:

Married 26 years. Rosalie and I have 4 children. Love running hills, especially up Millcreek Canyon. I live 3/4 mile from its base.

Redrock Marathon 2011: 3:33 - major accomplish. 3,300' elevation gain.

SLC Marathon 2009, 2010 & 2011 : 3:15

Ogden Marathon 2010: 3:22

Teton Dam Marathon 2010 3:18

Deseret News 2010 3:47 (broke arm 30 hours before run - arm in cast)

Park City Marathon 2010 3:45 (arm in cast)

Pocatello Marathon 2010: 3:12

St. George Maratho 3:10 (2009 & 2010) 3:08:50 (2011)

Monday afternoon in Idaho Falls. Before leaving for home, went up a road east of Ammon into the foothills where there are not trees, and 200 wind turbines. Parked the truck and ran on a dirt road called Eagle Pass. It circled back to the main road which then lead back to my truck. Total time was 51 minutes, which was a killer run. Made my 4 hour drive home delightful, feeling affects of endorphins, and listening to the world series.

A good afternoon run up monster (25:30), then to Neffs and Millcreek canyon. Before turning home I ran 1/2 mile up to the fee station. Colors were awsome, which was my motivation, along with not having made it to the black sheep speed work this morning. This week is busy with work, so I need to run when time permits. Otherwise I might go crazy.

Millcreek canyon to the top. The storm hit before I finished, and during the last 3 miles I was soaking wet. I saw Dave Bettinson, Steve Ostler, Kent Landvatter, Tarra Mckee - Paula Hein - Gloria Hunter. Then at the top was Kathleen Rich who parked her car there yesterday and ran down. John was there jump starting the battery. I made it to the top in 1:36 though I stopped my watch to talk with Ostler and Landvatter, and again getting a drink. Elbow was reached in 1:03:5  On the way down there was the U. of U ski team practicing on their skates, and running trails. Evan and Emily Romrell ran the pipeline and came out at Burch Hollow, just behind me. I ran a mile down with Emiliy as it started to rain. Rosalie got worried I'd been gone so long and drove up. She found me just below mile 3, but I waved her off and finished my run in 2:49. However, this was the running time. I probably had 30 minutes of rest and conversation.
