| Location: Salt Lake City,UT, Member Since: Dec 29, 2009 Gender: Male Goal Type: Marathon Finish Running Accomplishments: A marathon runner just trying to enjoy good health and running long. 22 years between marathon 6 & 7, raising kids. 48 marathons and counting. Average finishing time ~ 3:25. Want to keep this average above 3:30 as I continue to age deepin into my 50's. Looking for a 3:12 in SLC 2012 Short-Term Running Goals: Keep my SL Marathon time in "teens". Possibly break the teens (3:12 - 3:00). Two screws in right knee gives me a reality check on my ambitions. I don't want to sacrafice my joint for too crazy of a goal. Good health is my real goal. Long-Term Running Goals: Continue running strong into my 60's, and add to my marathon count. In 1982 I finished St. George at 2:57, 1 second behind a 60 year old. I've always wondered if I could break 3 hours when I'm in my 60's. I'd like to find out. Personal: Married 26 years. Rosalie and I have 4 children. Love running hills, especially up Millcreek Canyon. I live 3/4 mile from its base.

| An early morning run down past Highland High and across Parley's canyon. Time was not bad after a slow start, making it back in 1:25. |

| On Trent's road bike from St. George to Cedar City, through Enterprise and Newcastle. A climb of about 5500 feet. I went by myself which was quite enjoyable though I love having company. But this way I could push along without waiting for anyone, or having them wait for me. Total gross time was 6hrs 20min. Left SG at 1:30 and arrived at 7:50. I made a 25 minute stop in enterprise for a couple cokes and pop tarts. And then a telephone call in Newcastle. Up at Diamond valley I searched for some water, which took about 15 minutes. So total stops were about 45 minutes. |

| Better than I thought, considering being sick the last 10 days, and trying to hold back for Mesa Falls marathon next Saturday, then Pocatello the Saturday after that. Kept it more steady this time, slowed down the first half to 1:41 instead of 1:35 as usual. |

It's an okay course. From mile 19 until the end, the hot sun is on the back. I suggest they start it half hour earlier. I was fried, even running without a shirt. The course runs along an old light gage rail trail for 3 miles, starting at mile 14. It's narrow. Two people couldn't run side-by-side. Yet for the poor marathon runners who are in the 4:00 time, the half marathon starts just as they get to their group. So they all of a sudden have a ton of people crammed onto the small trail. And if you're longer than 4:00, you get behind the slow walkers on the half marathon, and they go bumpity bump two abrest. No one can pass them. This I learned from marathon runners in the 4:30 time. They did not like that. Course officials need to start the half marathon at 7:00, not 8:30. Otherwise, I liked the "hill" that everyone was referring to at mile 18. Seems like I caught up with runners who passed me going down hill. The falls was nice, and I stopped for 2 minutes to gawk. Then at Warm Springs camp ground, I walked and found a toity for a couple minutes. But the rest was nice. Major blisters on both feet, a hold over from Park City marathon last week. But I ran through them and exercised pain control.
I lead a girl, the first woman finisher, down the 3 mile rail trail. We kicked it's butt, knocking out 6:30 mpm pace. Totally stoked on that. When we finished, she was grateful for my lead, staying right on my heals. Going that fast you can't hardly afford to blink. Too may rocks. But I let her go when we got to the end and she sped off. But still I only finished 3 minutes behind her. Her name's Dixy, I think, from SLC. And man, I was sooo hoping to see a bear. On the gravel road to start with, I kept looking, but hearing only cows. Those cattle guards....watch out. They need to put plywood down or someone's going to break a leg. |

| Feeling better. Was quite tired last few days. Being sick since three weeks ago today has taken a lot of energy from my life, along with two marathons and full work schedule. Today I went as fast as I could, which was slow, up to Neff's canyon and on the way back, went into Powers circle for 5. |
